Northeastern Commons is where Northeastern University students, faculty, staff, and the broader community can come together to share ideas, explore common interests, foster creativity, and expand interdisciplinary thinking. Within the Commons you can locate and engage with individuals who share similar interests and backgrounds with you. You can create and/or join discussion groups based on courses, research, and personal interests. As well as create your own user profile that showcases your research.  Northeastern Commons is brought to you by the University Library.

Northeastern Commons Guidelines for Use

Northeastern Commons accounts are intended for individual use. Northeastern Commons does not maintain a "real name" policy. As a professional network we ask that your account be associated with your professional identity. Entities such as projects, journals, or organizations should be represented via the subnetwork's Group functionality rather than through accounts.

To ensure open discussion and a welcoming environment for all users, Northeastern Commons reserves the right to delete any posting judged to be inappropriate, obscene, defamatory, libelous, or otherwise illegal or offensive. The following guidelines outline our expectations for appropriate online behavior for all users:

  • Be courteous and respectful. Do not post inflammatory, derogatory, or otherwise inappropriate comments about other users.
  • Respect privacy. Respect one another's privacy and intellectual property.
  • Know and respect the law. Do not promote, condone, or encourage illegal activity in your postings.

If you find any discussion inappropriate, obscene, defamatory, libelous, or otherwise illegal or offensive, please flag the discussion as inappropriate or e-mail NortheasternCommons@northeastern.edu to resolve the issue. We reserve the right to delete any posting determined to be inappropriate.

The Northeastern Commons is an entity within Northeastern Library as such, it will adhere to the Privacy Statement of Northeastern Library. We may in our sole discretion suspend or remove the account privileges of any user if the user is in violation Northeastern University's Policy on Appropriate Use of Computer and Network Resources.

These Guidelines for Use, Northeastern Library's Privacy Statement, and Northeastern University's Policy on Appropriate Use of Computer and Network Resources constitute the terms between you and Northeastern University governing your use of Northeastern Commons.
